With our solutions you can:

applications of vessel data

After we collected and analyzed the data, BMO will visualize and report the information to suit the workflow of your organization.

That can vary from:

  • Management-style monthly overviews in PDF
  • Weekly HSE and performance statistics in PDF or Email
  • Instant email notifications when a threshold has been passed (incl video footage)
  • Real-time on-board display to show key performance indicators
  • Real-time web-based overview with KPIs of all vessels

Deep dive reporting

In addition, with our extensive knowledge of the performance of Crew transfer vessels and their scheduling from windfarms all over Europe, many of our clients ask us to make special reports to assess a particular topic over a longer period of time e.g:

  • Transfer safety
  • Fleet utilization per season
  • Marine control effectiveness
  • Asset integrity of offshore structures
  • Effectiveness of employer provided logistics vs contracts

An example of our normal reporting:

Please find an example of a docking impact graph. It indicates which vessels are operating within safe margins with respect to the structural limits of the wind turbine. From this visualization a number of items can be reviewed on a monthly basis:

  • The condition of the existing fender on the vessel,
  • The ability of the crew to handle the vessel in normal conditions,
  • The impact that new access systems or fender systems.

(The information is based on fictional data points).

Our Web based data access

Additional to our normal reporting, some clients need immediate data access. For this reason BMO has developed the BMO Operations Viewer. This is a web-based platform that allows you to see an operational overview of:

  • Whereabouts vessels (real-time and historic paths)
  • KPIs per vessel at various time intervals
  • Potential to integrate with people tracking and other 3rd party data streams

Case studies

Our analysis can have benefits beyond what we described on our website under section 'services'.

The following selection of case studies demonstrates how our BMO system and analysis has helped our clients.

Case 1: Vessel damages

  • Client vessel experienced an impact with an object in ‘safe waters’ leading to structural damage on the vessel
  • Port authority contests and claims that the vessel was outside of ‘safe waters’ and hit a sandbank
  • This would lead to a ban on the vessel’s operation and thus a loss of contract as well as no restitution for damage
  • BMO sensor data analysis proved that the vessel was indeed in ‘safe waters’ and indicated the exact location of impact
  • After dredging on this location, an object was discovered – this resulted in the charges being dropped and the client successfully claiming compensation for the vessel damage

Case 2: Controversy over vessel performance

  • Client vessel was being suspected/accused of underperformance of contract – in a competitive market our client was facing an early termination of contract
  • BMO was able to demonstrate that the workability (when the vessel was deployed) was above the agreed level by objectively tracking the transfer and access conditions
  • This helped change the perception of the end-client and the result was a renewal of the vessel contract

Case 3: Deployment strategy vessels

  • A vessel owner supplies multiple vessel types to the same end-client
  • The different vessel types have distinct performance capabilities but these are not effectively utilised by marine control
  • In order to improve operational availability, the end-client was looking to hire larger vessels from different suppliers at a higher cost, while the increase in operational availability could have been covered by the existing fleet composition
  • BMO analysed 4 years of data to indicate the vessel deployment and indicate the scope for improvement
  • This resulted in our client’s vessels being recognised for their potential and lower costs for the end-client
